Marcello Mottadelli

Marcello Mottadelli graduated from the Verdi National Conservatory of Music in Milan, Italy, and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria. He worked as an assistant conductor to Romano Gandolfi at the Toscanini Foundation in Parma, Italy.

His conducting career has taken him to prestigious opera houses such as the Bern Theatre in Switzerland, Karlsruhe Theatre in Germany, the Budapest Opera in Hungary, Opera Colorado in the U.S., the Bolshoi Theatre in Russia, and the Royal Danish Theater.

He has conducted operas including Hansel and Gretel, Die Fledermaus, Il Trovatore, The Magic Flute, Martha, Rigoletto, Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Madama Butterfly, and La Bohème.

From 2008 to 2011, he served as Music Director of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, from 2016 to 2017 as Artistic Director of the Bucharest National Opera, and from 2018 to 2021 as Director of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb.

He is currently a coordinator at the Saaremaa Opera Festival.

Junghyun James Cho

Junghyun James Cho has served as music director, pianist and opera coach for more than 50 different operas. He was named the first prize at the 2015 Blue Danube/ Bela Bartok International Conducting Competition and maintains an active podium career on three continents.After making his professional opera debut as a music director at the Seoul Metropolitan Opera Company in 2009, he was invited as a guest conductor for orchestras and opera companies such as Rochester Philharmonic, Tokyo Prime Symphony, Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, KwangjuSymphony Orchestra, Kangnam Symphony Orchestra, Korea Coop Orchestra, Prime Philharmonic Orchestra, Pu-cheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Dae-gu Opera Company, Seoul Opera Company, Korean National Opera Company, etc.

In the summer of 2015, Mr. Cho made his European debut with the “Giuseppe Verdi” Salerno Opera Theatre in Italy, conducting ‘Il Barbiere di Siviglia’. He consistently conducts opera productions such as ‘Tosca’, ‘Rigoletto’, ‘Gianni Schicchi’, and ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ in various European theaters.

Mr. Cho attended Seoul National University for his Bachelor’s degree in orchestral conducting and composition, and the University of Cincinnati college-conservatory of music(CCM), where he earned his Masters of Music and Artist Diploma in conducting and opera coaching. He also had worked as a faculty member at CCM and has worked with Cincinnati Opera Company from 2013 to 2016.

He is serving as a conductor and adjunct professor at Seoul National University from 2018. As a music director/conductor, Mr. Cho performed ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’, ‘Don Giovanni’, ‘Idomeneo’, ‘Orfeo ed Euridice’, ‘L’elisir d’amore’, ‘I Pagliacci’, ‘Les Dialogues des Carmelites’, ’Turn of the screw’, ‘The Street Scene’, ‘Die Zauberflote’, ‘Der Freischutz’, ’Rigoletto’, ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’, ‘The Rake’s Progress’, ‘Gianni Schicchi’, ‘Tosca’, ‘La Boheme’, ‘Bastien und Bastienne’, ‘Owen Wingrave’, ‘Fellow Travelers’, ‘The Pilot’, ‘Turandot’, etc. In 2022, he was appointed as a music director of Yeosu Symphony Orchestra. In the same year, he founded the Korea International School of Arts (KISA) with his wife, violinist Kara Nam, where he currently serves as president and music director.

Kabgun Chung

Kabgun Chung is the Intendant and Artistic Director of Daegu Opera House from 2021. He graduated with direction at Chung-Ang University in Seoul and studied at Accademia d’Arte Drammatica in Rome. He also gained valuable work experience at the La Scala Theater in Milan.

Prior to his current role, he was the Director of the National Changgeuk Company of Korea and Gwangju Metropolitan Opera, and has taught at various universities in Korea. With over 30 years of experience, Chung has directed 145 productions, including La Boheme, Otello, Aida, Madama Butterfly, and Turandot.

In 2005, he became the first Asian director to be invited to the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago to direct Madama Butterfly.

In 2025, he directs Sim Tjong and Madama Butterfly at the Saaremaa Opera Festival in Estonia. Additionally, he serves as the chairperson of the Daegu and Gyeongbuk branch of the Korean Culture and Arts Centers Association.

ORPHEUS AND EURYDICE

Sookjeong Eom graduated with top honors from the Conservatory of Alfredo Casella L’Aquila (Piano) and the Licinio Refice Conservatory (Opera Directing), Italy.

She has directed productions at both international and domestic institutions including the Teatro Comunale di Valmucchia (Italy), the National Chorus of Korea, Korea National Opera, Seongnam Arts Center, Art Center Incheon, Busan Cultural Center, and Daegu Opera House.

Her directing repertoire includes numerous opera productions such as Le Nozze di Figaro, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Il Matrimonio Segreto, L’elisir d’amore, Don Giovanni, La Bohème, Tosca, La Traviata, Rigoletto, Cavalleria Rusticana, and Pagliacci.

Hyunjung Kim

Hyunjung Kim graduated from the Department of Fine Arts (Furniture Design) at Pusan National University and the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Italy. She is a former Art Director of the Korea National Opera and a former Visiting Professor at Seokyeong University’s School of Performing Arts.

Her work has been recognized with the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and the Stage Design Award from the Korean Institute of Cultural Architecture.

Hyunjung Kim has designed sets for numerous opera productions, including Arang, Jigwi, L’elisir d’amore, Le Nozze di Figaro, Siegfried’s Sword, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Turandot, Die Zauberflöte, Aida, Otello, Tosca, Lucia di Lammermoor, Orfeo ed Euridice, Andrea Chénier, Roberto Devereux, and Die Fledermaus, also original Korean operas such as TQueen Heo, and Tin Roof.

She has also participated in large-scale concerts, including New Year’s Celebrations, and cultural exhibitions such as the Turkey State Banquet Exhibition.

Jaehee Lee is a Costume Designer with over 20 years’ experience in designing opera, dance, musical theatre and commercial productions.

She served as the head of Costume department for Korean National Opera and has worked in productions includingOtello, Don Carlo, Mefistofele, Faust, L’enfant et les sortilèges, Lulu, and Rigoletto.

Recent Opera designs credits include; Carmen, Lucia diLammermoor, Tosca(Daegu International Opera Festival); Un Ballo in Maschera, Don Giovanni(Korean National Opera).

Suho Jang is a PhD candidate in Art & Technology at Chung-Ang University Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science and a researcher at Chung-Ang University’s Digital Arts & Technology Application Lab.

He has previously served as an Adjunct Professor at Soongui Women’s University (Film Production) and a Lecturer at Hongik University (Digital Media Design), and was selected as an artist for the 2020 Seoul Media Art Project.

Suho Jang has designed visual concepts and video content for numerous opera productions including Aida, Carmen, La Traviata, Turandot, L’elisir d’amore, Die Zauberflöte, La Bohème, Don Giovanni, Andrea Chénier, Le Nozze di Figaro, La Forza del Destino, The Red Shoes, The Flying Dutchman, Spring, Spring Dongseung, and Korean Opera Best Collection.

He is currently serving as the Art Director and CEO at HYPERSTAGE Co., Ltd.

Anyoung Kim earned a Master of Fine Arts in Beauty Coordinate Design from Daegu Catholic University Graduate School of Arts and has completed training at Christian Chauveau in France.

Her makeup design credits include numerous operas such as Sim Tjong, Madama Butterfly, La Traviata, L’elisir d’amore, Rinaldo, La Bohème, The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni,

Pagliacci, Chunhyangjeon, Gianni Schicchi, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Carmen, and Acis and Galatea, 264, That One Star, Tosca, Turandot, and Die lustige Witwe.

She is currently the CEO of Erika Makeup Production.

Youngnam Kim, a former member of the Daegu City Dance Company, has received multiple prestigious awards, including the Grand Prize and Choreography Award at the 25th Daegu Dance Festival, Choreographer of the Year at the 17th New Dance Festival, Excellence Award at the 30th Daegu Dance Festival, the Dance Award at the 2019 Daegu Arts Awards, a Citation from the Mayor of Daegu Metropolitan City (2021), and the 35th Proud Citizen Award of Dalseo-gu, Daegu.

She has choreographed numerous opera productions, including Carmen, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Otello, and Chunhyang.

Currently, she serves as the Director of Kairos Dance Company.

Lilla Lee

Lilla Lee is South Korean Soprano. She graduated from the Milan Conservatory and the same year attended the Formation and Improvers course at the Arturo Toscanini Academy of Singing in Parma. She graduated a superior vocal course from the Novara conservatory and attended the Formation and Improvers course at the academy of Orazio Vecchi in Modena.

Among her recent engagements are role as Abigaille in Nabucco at State theatre in Prague, Odabella in Attila in Seoul Arts Center, role debut as Maddalena in Andrea Chénier at Daegu Opera House, Turandot in Turandot at Teatro Sociale di Ferrara in Italy and SeJong ArtCenter in Seoul. Turandot and Madama Butterfly in Antalya Festival and Efes Festival and Sofia Opera and Ballet in Bulgaria.

In 2008 she made her debut as Turandot at Opera Lombardia and appeared in this role on many other stages like Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, State theatre in Prague, Polish National Theatre in Warsaw, Opera house in Dubai, National Opera in Sofia,

Roman ancient theatre in Plovdiv, Teatro Grande di Brescia, Teatro Fraschini di Pavia, Teatro Sociale di Como, Teatro social di Rovigo, Teatro comunale di Ferrara, Seoul arts center, SeJong Art Center, Daegu Opera House, Istanbul Opera Festival and more.

Heejin Oh

Heejin Oh earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in vocal performance from Keimyung University and graduated from the Arrigo Boito National Conservatory in Parma, Italy.

She has received numerous accolades, including 3rd prize at the Viotti International Competition, 1st prizes at the Mantova Martini, Titta Ruffo, and Toscanini International Competitions, and 2nd prizes at the Piero Cappuccilli, Mario Lanza, and Giacomo Puccini Competitions.

She was also awarded the New Female Artist Prize at the 7th Korea Opera Awards.

She has performed as a soloist in Mozart’s Requiem at the Bellini Theater and Politeama Theater, and has appeared in the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Concertante Opera.

Her operatic roles include Tosca, Turandot, Andrea Chénier, Nabucco, Madama Butterfly, Don Giovanni, Maria Stuarda, La Traviata, Il Trovatore, Otello, La Bohème, Die Fledermaus, Anna Bolena, and Mosè.

She currently teaches at Keimyung University and Chung-Ang University.

Junghyun Lee

Junghyun Lee earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the College of Music at Kyungpook National University, South Korea.

She received a scholarship to the Diploma program in voice performance at Indiana University Bloomington, USA, and graduated with honors. Junghyun Lee was admitted with full scholarship to the Doctoral program in Performance at the University of Kentucky, USA, and completed the program.

She is a winner of the 1st prize at the Busan Glovil International Competition and the 2nd prize at the Alltech Vocal Scholarship Competition, USA.

Junghyun Lee has performed leading roles in opera productions such as Il Barbiere di Siviglia, La Traviata, Madama Butterfly, and A Lucky Day.

She served as an adjunct professor at Berea College and Centre College in Kentucky, USA, and as a choir conductor at St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church in Lexington, Kentucky.

She is currently an adjunct professor at Daegu Catholic University and a faculty member at Pohang Arts High School.

Jeong A Kim

Jeong A Kim graduated with master degree at Seoul National University and earned an Opera Diploma from the Academy of Pescara in Italy.

She won first prize at the Mario del Monaco Vocal Competition and Taranto Opera Festival Competitions, receiving the Italian Presidential Honor Medal, and was also a prizewinner at numerous other competitions including Bellini, Alcamo, and Francesco Albanese.

She has performed with major orchestras such as the KBS Symphony, Daegu Symphony, Gyeongbuk Provincial Symphony, Pohang City Symphony, Jinju City Symphony, Incheon Philharmonic, Gangneung Philharmonic, and the National Police Orchestra.

Her solo recitals include invitations from Daegu Concert House, Korea Sound Culture Hall, Pushkin Theater in Russia, and a duo concert in Alcamo, Italy.

She has appeared in leading opera roles in La Traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Bohème, L’elisir d’amore, Don Giovanni, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Carmen, Die Fledermaus, Rigoletto, and I Puritani.

She is currently a professor of vocal music at Yeungnam University.

Seonkyong Jeong

Seonkyong Jeong earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in vocal music from Yeungnam University and completed a Master’s in Opera at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany.

She was awarded a full scholarship for four years at the renowned Raina Kabaivanska School.

She received third prizes at the Sarzana and Valsesia International Music Competitions in Italy.

As a soloist, she has performed in gala concerts and recitals in Berlin, Essen, Düsseldorf, and across Italy, including Modena, Sarzana, Valsesia, Vercelli, Bellano, and Porto San Giorgio, and was featured in a concert hosted by the Italian Embassy in Bulgaria.

She appeared in lead roles at the Sofia Opera & Ballet in Don Pasquale, Rigoletto, and Don Giovanni.

She is currently a visiting professor at Yeungnam University.

Aile Asszonyi

OPERA GALA

Aile Asszonyi is an Estonian dramatic soprano. She studied singing at the Estonian Academy of Music, the Opera Studio Amsterdam and the academy of Carlo Bergonzi in Italy. She was a finalist of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium receiving the “Prix des Donateurs du Concours Reine Elisabeth” and received several national opera awards in her native country, most recently the Estonian State Prize for Music 2023.

She started her career in the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and made her opera debut as Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Before changing to the dramatic repertoire, she sang roles such as Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Maria in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda, Miss Jessel in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, Armida in Haydn’s Armida, Giovanna in Verdi’s Giovanna d’Arco, Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Angelica in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Rosalinde in Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Amelia in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera, Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Violetta in Verdi’s La traviata, Mimì in Puccini’s La bohème, Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust, Woman in Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Wallenberg, Manon in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, Liza in Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades and Aida in Verdi’s Aida.

Jung A Son graduated with a degree in vocal music from Dankook University and completed both the Konzertexamen and Meisterklasse at the Freiburg University of Music in Germany.

She has appeared at major international venues such as Teatro Verdi in Salerno, the National Theater of Karlsruhe, Erkel Theater in Budapest, the Konstanz Summer Festival, and Singapore’s Victoria Theatre with New Opera Singapore.

In Korea, she has performed leading roles in numerous operas with the Korea National Opera, Daegu International Opera Festival.

She has also performed with orchestras and choirs including the Daegu Symphony Orchestra, Gyeongbuk Provincial Symphony, Jeonju Philharmonic, and various city choirs.

A former lecturer at Kyungpook National University, Yeungnam University, and several arts high schools, she is currently active as a professional artist with KAN Entertainment.

Gayoung Kim graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Voice from the Korea National University of Arts and earned a Master’s degree in Opera with top honors from the University of Music Nuremberg, Germany. She completed the Artist Diploma program at the University of Music Mainz.

She received a Diploma at the Queen Sonja International Music Competition, was a finalist at the Marie Kraja International Singing Competition, was awarded a Diploma at the Mirjam Helin and Queen Sonja International Singing Competition, and won Third Prize at the Neustadter Meistersinger International Singing Competition.

Her concert appearances include the Rheinvokal Mozart Concert at Montabaur Hall, the 2023 F1963 Opera Gala Concert at Seokcheon Hall in Korea, and the 2024 Klassische Philharmonie Bonn Opera Gala Concerts across five German cities (Stuttgart, Bremen, Nuremberg, Hamburg, Hannover).

Her operatic roles include leading performances in Suor Angelica, Die Fledermaus, The Zoo, Orfeo ed Euridice (as Orfeo), Carmen (as Mercedes), and The Love for Three Oranges.

Seong-gyu Park graduated from the Department of Music Education at Samyuk and later completed his studies at the Verdi National Conservatory of Music in Milan, Italy. He has won prestigious awards including 1st place at the Leoncavallo Competition, 3rd place at the Viotti Music Competition, 1st place at the Riccardo Zandonai Competition, and 1st place with the Audience Prize at the Marseille Opera International Competition.

He has performed leading roles in major operas such as Andrea Chénier and Cavalleria Rusticana at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Rigoletto, Werther, and La Gioconda at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Turandot at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, and the National Theatre in Prague, Tosca, Norma, Aida, and Madama Butterfly at the Teatro Verdi

in Trieste, Un Ballo in Maschera and Il Trovatore at the Lille National Opera in France, Medea in Corinto at the Palermo Opera House, and Rusalka, Esclarmonde, The Flying Dutchman, and Lohengrin at the Kiel Opera House in Germany.

Sunghwan Kim earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Vocal Music from Yeungnam University and completed the Konzertgesang Diploma at the Cologne University of Music in Germany. He also completed doctoral coursework in Choral Conducting at the Yeungnam University Graduate School.

As a performer, he has appeared in numerous principal roles in operas such as L’elisir d’amore, Die Zauberflöte, Pagliacci, Rigoletto, Die Fledermaus, Salome, and Hänsel und Gretel.

In addition to his performance career, he served as conductor for inmate choirs at correctional institutions in Andong, Ulsan, and Daegu, and also held conductor positions with the Yeungnam University Staff and Faculty Choirs.

He is currently the Director of Ensemble M.S.G and Music Director of the Daegu Opera Choir.

Seungyong Oh

Seungyong Oh graduated from Kyungpook National University and studied at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Italy, earning his diploma from the Brescia National Conservatory.

A former member of the Korea National Opera, he has won top prizes in over ten international competitions, including the Viotti Valsesia competition and Giuseppe Di Stefano competition.

He has performed with leading orchestras such as the Ulsan Philharmonic, Korean Symphony Orchestra, Prime Philharmonic, Suwon Philharmonic, and the Tongyeong International Music Festival Orchestra.

He has also appeared at the Young Prague Festival.

Sangchurl Jea studied vocal music at Yeungnam University and opera at Temple University in the U.S. He was a prizewinner in competitions such as Violetta Dupont and Pi Kappa Lambda, and became the first Korean to pass the audition and debut at Karlsruhe Theater in Germany in 2011.

In 2015, he received the “Vocalist of the Year” award at the Daegu International Opera Festival.

He has performed in Carmina Burana, Ein deutsches Requiem, and Handel’s Messiah with the Anyang, Gyeongsan, and Gimhae City Choirs, and sang as the baritone soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Busan and Daegu Philharmonics.

He has taken on over a hundred lead roles in operas with major companies including the Korea National Opera, Daegu Opera, Daegu International Opera Festival, Gyeongnam Opera, Yeongnam Opera, Chosun Opera, New Opera Singapore, Lanzhou Theater in China, and various regional orchestras.

His roles span from La Traviata, Rigoletto, Pagliacci, La Bohème, The Barber of Seville, Carmen, Manon Lescaut, and The Pearl Fishers, to contemporary works like Baekbeom Kim Gu, The Scholar, Francis of Assisi, The Song of Cheoyong, and Myeongrang Seonhwa.

He currently teaches at Yeungnam University and Gyeongbuk Arts High School, serves as Director of Daekyung Opera, and is the principal conductor of Redemption Chorus.

Soonpo Hong graduated from the College of Music and Performing Arts at Keimyung University and furthered his studies at the Girolamo Frescobaldi Conservatory in Italy.

He has performed in over 30 operas across Hungary, Poland, China, and beyond, with roles in La forza del destino, La Bohème, Lucia di Lammermoor, Rigoletto, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly.

As a bass soloist, he has appeared in major works such as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Fauré’s Requiem, and Mozart’s Coronation Mass.

He has also collaborated with the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra and performed in hundreds of concerts. He is currently a visiting professor at Keimyung University’s College of Music and Performing Arts.

Anger trained at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

He is renowned for his interpretation of Wagner bass roles, with engagements in Wagner operas including Herrmann (Tannhäuser) for Vienna State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin and the BBC Proms, Heinrich (Lohengrin) for Deutsche Oper Berlin and in Tallinn, Hunding (Die Walküre) in Frankfurt, Paris, Munich, Houston and for Vienna State Opera, Fafner (Das Rheingold) and Veit Pogner (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) for Vienna State Opera, Pogner for San Francisco Opera, Fasolt (Das Rheingold) for Liceu, Barcelona, Daland (Der fliegende Holländer) for La Scala, Milan, and Washington National Opera, Fafner (Der Ring des Nibelungen) for Bayreuth Festival and Hagen (Götterdämmerung) for Canadian Opera Company and Deutsche Oper Berlin.

His other repertory includes Boris (Boris Godunov), the Commendatore (Don Giovanni), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Rocco (Fidelio), Zaccaria (Nabucco), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Padre Guardiano (La forza del destino), Jacopo Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), Grand Inquisitor (Don Carlos), Ramfis (Aida), Prince Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Dosifey (Khovanshchina), Orest (Elektra) and Méphistophélès (Faust).

Anger also sings widely in concert with major US and European orchestras, under conductors including James Conlon, Charles Dutoît, Mariss Jansons, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Christian Thielemann.

His concert repertory includes Beethoven’s Missa solemnis, Verdi’s Requiem, Mahler’s Symphony no.8 and Dvorák’s Stabat Mater. He was awarded the Order of the White Star in 2013.
