Shanghai Opera House
One of the top modern Chinese musical theatres, it was founded in 1956. Over the past sixty years, the theatre has staged numerous operas, dance dramas, musicals, choral, symphonic, and dance works. The Shanghai Opera House has developed a diverse and varied repertoire of Chinese composers as well as many classical western operas. The opera theatre has established partnerships with overseas colleagues and staged collaborative productions. The Shanghai Opera House often performs in China, as well as in Italy, the Vatican, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Macau. The Shanghai Opera House has collaborated with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, John Nelson, and Daniel Oren, as well as with tenors Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, José Carreras, and many others.
