The opening day of the Silesian Opera (Opera Śląska w Bytomiu) is considered to be 14 June 1945 – the date of the premiere of ‘Halka’, the first post-war opera performance in Poland. The theatre was founded by the world-famous bass singer Adam Didur. His authority enabled him to compile a dedicated team in a very short time and create a first-class institution boasting strong and reliable names in the world of opera.

Before long, the theatre in Bytom had become one of the most important players in Polish opera and also enjoyed a great reputation as a hotbed for new talent. 2016. Łukasz Goik, who became the head of the opera house in 2016, successfully maintains the mission of promoting high culture. The premiere of the opera ‘Romeo and Juliet’ in 2017 marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration with Michał Znaniecki. Several of his award-winning productions that have captivated both audiences and critics, will be performed at the Saaremaa Opera Festival.
