Saaremaa Opera Festival 2021
MAIN ARTIST
St Petersburg Chamber Opera
Artistic Director Juri Aleksandrov
The St Petersburg Chamber Opera, with its incredible artistic quality and numerous awards attained, was founded by the theatre’s Artistic Director Yuri Alexandrov in 1987, when it became clear that audiences expected new creative ideas from theatres. The troupe, which was created to act as an art laboratory, immediately established itself in St Petersburg as a ‘theatre in search’ and a ‘living opera’. The repertoire of the St Petersburg Chamber Opera is special; gems from various countries and eras are brought to the stage, taking into account the size of the troupe. Over the years, the chamber theatre grew into the St Petersburg Chamber Opera – a professional state theatre that is renowned both in Russia and elsewhere in the world.
The St Petersburg Chamber Opera’s productions have been awarded numerous prestigious Russian theatre awards, such as the Golden Mask and the Golden Sofit. The St Petersburg Chamber Opera enlists numerous talented young people, including graduates of the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory as well as young talents personally sought out by Yuri Alexandrov from all over Russia.
